Expert Answers about Tire Repair Tools

  • What Handlebar Holder do You Recommend for Easy Bike Loading on a Bike Rack?
  • Thank you so much for the suggestion and your purchase with us! While we do not carry one exactly like your model, we do carry the Feedback Sports Flop Stop Handlebar Holder # 301-13981 that achieves the same front-wheel stability and ease of loading as the Park Tool holder. It also has a telescoping bar that adjusts 20-35 inches to fit a variety of bike frame styles. However, it is important to note that this should not serve as a replacement for a bike frame adapter bar like the Swagman...

  • Can Higher Load Range Tire Be Used as Spare Tire
  • You can absolutely continue using your existing wheels if you upgrade to a higher load range tires. As long as you don't exceed the 910 lb per tire/1820 lb per axle capacity of the wheels, you'll be just fine. If you wanted to use the # AM30155 as a spare tire, that would work fine. You want to run tires that all have the same load range, but if you use the Load Range D tire as a temporary spare only until you can get the load range C tire repaired or replaced you'll be just fine.

  • Is The Taskmaster ST225/75D15 Bias Trailer Tire with 15" Silver Mod Wheel # TA62FR Balanced?
  • The Taskmaster ST225/75D15 Bias Trailer Tire with 15" Silver Mod Wheel # TA62FR does not come balanced. This is due to the fact trailer tires do not require balancing. As their primary function is to support heavy loads and are not providing a comfortable ride like vehicle tires. We do offer the Counteract Tire Balancing Beads # CA83VR which includes beads for up to 4 tires and the tools necessary to install the beads without breaking the bead on the tire.

  • Determining Spindle Size To Replace Hub On Utility Trailer
  • The closest wheels we will have are 4 on 4. It sounds like your wheels use a 4 on 110mm bolt pattern which is most popular on car wheels. I would check with the trailer manufacturer for any recommended wheels to ensure you get wheels that are strong enough and the correct offset for your trailer. If you like I can help you find some replacement hubs to get your trailer to the more common bolt pattern sizes. This will make it easier to repair if you have trouble on the side of the road....

  • Balancing Trailer Wheel and ST235/80R16 Trailer Tire
  • You can add the Counteract Tire Balancing Beads # CA66VR to the Kenda Karrier ST235/80R16 Radial Trailer Tire with 16" Black Mod Wheel # AM34834 as we do not have the ability to balance wheels and tires at our facility. I always warn if tires are balanced and shipped that they should have balance verified at a shop as wheel weights can fall off in transport. By using the balancing beads they will balance the wheel and tire every time you drive ensuring proper balance. This is great for...

  • Reason for Stipes on Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire Tread
  • The stripes on the Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire # AM10010 tread are something added by the manufacturer so they can identify the slab of tread. The colors indicate the size and type of tire that the tread is intended for when they're making the tires. Trailer tires like these can be balanced, but it isn't necessary. The main responsibility of a trailer tire is supporting the load of the trailer, not providing a smooth ride for passengers. If you plan to mount them yourself I would search...

  • How to Best Discourage Theft of Bikes
  • You're right. Any lock can be defeated by a thief with the time and sometimes the tools to do so. Locks are primarily included on items like bike racks to act as deterrents. In other words, to an extent they "work" sometimes just by encouraging the thief to take another bike that will be easier to steal than yours. Bolt cutters, hack saws and other tools can make short work of stealing a bike or a bike rack or both. There is, sadly, no such thing as "theft-proof". The best way to decrease...

  • Does Kenda 4.80/4.00-8 Bias Trailer Tire with 8-Inch White Wheel # AM30060 Accept Hub Caps
  • Usually a smaller-size 8-inch trailer wheel like the Kenda # AM30060 is not fitted with a hub cap. The small projections you noticed (and there are actually 3 of them on this item) are not intended to hold a hub cap although on larger wheels this can be the case. These small round nubs are simply a result of the tooling used for production of the wheels.

  • Can The Lippert RV Spare Tire Carrier Winch Be Locked In Place To Prevent The Tire From Dropping?
  • There is no way to lock the Lippert RV Spare Tire Carrier with Winch # LC159041 as it ships from the factory. You would need to weld on a tab which would allow you to use a Pin # 37201211 by drilling a hole through the tab and shaft for the winch. We do have a Replacement Winch # LC159056 you can use to replace your current winch since the internal brake is not holding the tire in place. Lippert does note with these to not over crank or use any power tools to raise/lower the tire as that...

  • Benefits of Using the Thule Premium Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains # TH02230K55
  • The largest benefit to using the Thule Premium Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains, # TH02230K55, is the fact that it is the only chains which leave your wheels untouched. The tire chain strictly sits on the tire tread to avoid damage to your vehicle's rims. In addition these chains offer a self-centering, self-tensioning system and steel tensioning springs to create a perfect fit even on worn tires. Having recently completed a training session on tire chains here at etrailer, I can tell...

  • Troubleshooting Tire Wear on One Side Only
  • Wear on one tire like that can be due to a bent spindle or a heavier load on that one location. For instance having a slide out at that location will cause that tire to wear faster than others, so rotating your trailer tires is beneficial especially in that case. Another possibility is improper inflation as trailer tires are designed to be run at their max PSI when filled cold which is far different than automotive tires. I've attached a frequently asked questions article on tires to...

  • Leveling Trailer Side to Side
  • We don't offer anything that would be designed to 'even out' the side to side weight distribution. Attempting to do so wouldn't be a safe idea anyway, as the trailer wouldn't handle correctly when unloaded in that condition. What I'd recommend you do is place some heavy items on the other side of the trailer to even out the load in a side-to-side orientation. It's crucial that the side to side weight bias of a trailer be as close to equal as possible, otherwise you'll have tire and suspension...

  • Replacing Hubs On Utility Trailer Axle
  • In order to find the correct hubs and drums you will need to know the capacity of the trailer axle and size of the bearings. If you disassemble the hub, you should be able to find the numbers stamped on the bearings. If you are unable to find the numbers, you can use a precision tool like a digital caliper and measure the spindle in the locations noted in the attached drawing. We would need the B,C and D measurements. Once We get those measurements I can make some recommendations for...

  • How to Remove Rusted Lug Nuts on Calkins Boat Trailer Hubs in Order to Replace Tires
  • I can suggest two methods for helping to loosen the rusted-on lug nuts on your Calkins boat trailer. The first method, which takes longer, is to apply and re-apply (as many times as necessary) a penetrating oil and allow it time to work through the rust on the threads. Depending on how severe the rust damage is this may take anywhere from hours to days. Such products are offered under a number of different brand names. They work slowly but also have less chance of causing damage. The other...

  • General Towing Information for a 2004 Toyota Highlander V6
  • A VIN is not required, just the year, make and model of a vehicle. Sometimes certain configurations need to be stated such as Hybrid engine, 4WD or sport packages. On some vehicles, spare tires need to be removed. The Draw-Tite hitch, part # 75153 does not require removal of the spare tire and yes it can still be accessed. The trailer wiring harness for tow package 2004 Highlanders is part # 118248. The port for the tow package vehicles is located behind the driver side cargo access panel...

  • How To Determine Trailer Axle Weight Capacity And Replacement Hub Components
  • Depending on the age and condition of the trailer, it may have a sticker or plate that has the weight capacity of the trailer listed. If you aren't able to find a sticker or plate, you can determine the weight capacity of your axle by using a precision tool like part # PTW80157. Here are the typical axle diameters between the hubs based on axle capacity. You will need to measure the axle beam. the tire does not actually have to be removed for that. - 1,000-lb - 2,000-lb Axles: 1-1/2...

  • Should an Air Ride/Air Bag Pin Box Be Used when Towing 5th Wheel with Peterbilt Rig
  • Typically, 5th wheel pin boxes with airbags are used when someone wants to improve the ride quality of the tow vehicle while pulling the trailer. You can certainly use a pin box with an air bag to help reduce the stress on your trailer while towing with your rig, but the stress reduction will likely be minimal. An air ride pin box will not provide a noticeable difference in ride quality with your rig. If you decide to replace your existing pin box with an air ride pin box, you will want...
